Education is one of the fields that are always changing, and not without a reason. The majority of education system are aimed for young students, and these are often the first adopters to a new tech. As student's daily lives are changing, so are schools! This explains why Augmented Reality is a fresh topic in the EdTech (educational technology) world.

But how exactly will AR impact education? Which are the areas in which AR can help? Here are the ways AR can shape education in the future.

  1. Communication

With only texts and non-interactive pictures, a lot of message gets lost in the way. This is a crucial problem teachers face everyday, which can easily be tackled by a more innovative medium. Augmented Reality can simplify abstract and difficult concepts by visualizing objects that are hard to imagine. It allows 3D graphics to be viewed from every angle. It could also grab anyone’s attention and spark curiosity right away, especially for younger learners.

2. Engagement and Interaction

A survey conducted by Samsung in June of 2016 found that the educators are really eager to make VR and AR a reality in learning. This is understandable, as 86 percent of teachers who took part in the survey feel it's a challenge to keep students engaged in class materials, even with existing classroom technology.

Augmented Reality offers a solution as it brings the classroom closer in a fresh way. It can encourage students to be active by involving them in exciting tasks. Educators can use AR to create interactive games and quizzes at class, let students examine educational models up close, or even build their own 3D creations related to the subject. With a creative learning experience where everyone is involved, it’s not a secret that stimulated and engaged students will understand any subject better and learn faster.

3. Exploration

Since AR only requires a smartphone or tablet, the technology can be implemented on field trips and other out-of-school learning in a breeze. It allows a seamless content integration with educational tourism places, ranging from museums, galleries, to historical sites. Students can also learn from virtual trips to places which are otherwise cannot be reached–from underwater to Mars. With such kind of experiential learning, it's not a secret that engaged students will be able to comprehend any subject better and learn faster.
