Did you know that Indonesia has a statue that's claimed to be the third tallest statue in the world? It's called Garuda Wisnu Kencana (GWK). After 28 years of construction, this statue was finally introduced to the public last year!
Set to be one of the largest in the world, the gigantic monument of the Hindu God of providence Wisnu riding the mythical bird Garuda is located in Indonesia. Here are four interesting facts for you!
Made of 3,000 tons of copper and brass
Initiated by Nyoman Nuarta–an Indonesian sculptor–this gigantic statue is made of 3,000 tons of copper and brass.
The third tallest statue in the world
Garuda Wisnu Kencana has become the third tallest statue in the world! It has over 121 meters in height. For comparison, the Statue of Liberty is only 93 meters high! The GWK statue follows closely behind Spring Temple Buddha in China dan The Laykyun Sekkya Buddha in Myanmar.
It's a lightning conductor
The brass and copper material makes the statue a lightning conductor. Pretty impressive.
No accidents happened during the construction
The construction of the statue itself involved 1,000 workers! Wow, that's a lot of people. Interestingly, although it took 28 years, there was no accidents at all during the construction.
So what do you think about these facts? Oh, of course they make us want to witness the colossal project! But if a trip to Bali is just impossible for you right now, don’t worry – you could still see the GWK statue up close!
